I really enjoyed reading Runemarks. I think it'd be a great book for anyone interested in alternate universes, Norse mythology, strong female adventurer characters, and fun fantasy stories that aren't exactly swords-and-sorcerers but do give that sort of thing a nod/5(52). A novel by Joanne Harris, Runemarks is the story of Maddy Smith, a fourteen year old girl who is sent on a quest to retrieve an artifact of the old gods called the Whisperer. The initial part of the book was especially well done; though it begins with the usual young Runemarks book coming into their powers, the runemarks and character of Maddy Smith gave it a real freshness and appeal. I Think it was a good book to read but it had some language. this is a good book to learn about the old Norse gods and there language.
